Happy New Year everyone! The holiday week started off way colder than we are used to here in Jupiter Florida. We had a cold front move through that kept out temperatures in the 50s for Christmas week. The good news is the weather has turned and we are going to be in the 80s for the New Years weekend! The weather is not the only thing changing here in Jupiter. The Jupiter Town Hall is moving! I know, crazy right? Yeah, the town is moving to a new location on the north side of Jupiter. They are renovating the existing building and adding onto it.
Leading up to Christmas and for past few months, since Hurricane Ian wrecked havoc on the West Coast of Florida, our water quality has been very poor. Within the past few weeks it’s been clearing up and we been seeing consistently beautiful blue water just in time for the New Year. We are so happy to see the water returning to it’s clear blue color!
Since our water has cleared considerably, it’s much easier to spot Manatee! The last cold front also cooled our water temperature, so the manatee are starting to find their way to their winter homes here in Jupiter in much higher numbers. With three trips on the books yesterday we were 3/3 for spotting manatee and on 2 of the trips we saw several. We have been very lucky so far this year to see lots of manatee but we are expecting to see more as the weather gets colder.
An added bonus yesterday included the perfect viewing opportunity of a Eagle ray breaching right next to the boat while everyone was focused on part of our narrated tour. As a captain that runs this trip multiple times a day, I see these beautiful creatures breaching all the time; however, our guests are usually focused on the beauty of the trip and not looking in the same places as I normally do…but not yesterday… Everyone of my passengers saw a clear view of the stingray completely leave the water with about 2′ of air! It was awesome! We are looking forward to another great day on the water today with four trips on the books. Who knows, maybe we’ll catch another one today.
We have had a ton of people in town visiting here in Jupiter as we are sliding into our season. Spots on the Flying Lady Boat Tour are booking up quickly, so book early. Remember, there is never a charge to reserve your tour, so why not get it on the books now!
