When we do our Jupiter Island Narrated Tours, we usually end up talking about a lot of things over the course of 2 hours. Some of the items we are going to share in this article have a recurring theme of being discussed during our tour and we wanted a place to direct people so they could easily enjoy some of these great attractions that aren’t on any may or even listed on the internet.
GALAPAGAS TORTOISE
One of our favorite things to do around town is to visit the Galapagos Tortoises in Stuart near the Hinckley Boatyard. Visiting the turtles is a cathartic experience.
The larger of the 4 tortoises names are Horace and Quagmire and they live on the East side of the road. Here they are in the following video:
The younger 2 tortoises (Secretariat and Seabiscuit) live on the West side of the road in the open lot.
Please be respectful of Tim and Sandy’s property, but if you see them out there they are always very helpful and love showing off their tortoises.
The turtles can feel when you scratch their shell and they also love neck scratches. They can be a little timid at first, but if you scratch the side of their face they will stick their neck out for you to scratch underneath.
Here are directions to the location of the Galapagos Tortoises:
PORTER PARK
Porter Park is a small county park that is located in the Indian Hills Subdivision. It’s a park that is underused and a great place to spend the day on or in the water. There are usually no visitors at this park so you can enjoy it to yourself.
BLOWING ROCKS PRESERVE
Blowing Rocks Preserve is a peaceful, barrier island sanctuary that was named for its rocky limestone shoreline (which is the largest on the Atlantic coast).
At high tide with a big swell and over 8kts of wind, the seas breaks against the rocks and force plumes of saltwater up to 50 feet skyward.
They have guided and self-guided tours that are fun for the whole family. Stop by before you drive North on Beach Road to Hobe Sound to enjoy all the famous home gates on Jupiter Island.
RIVERBEND PARK
Riverbend Park is a great place to enjoy the day on the water. You will paddle through the Loxahatchee River as it meanders. You may see alligators and tons of birdlife. There are a few water falls on your trip, so you can either brave the falls in your kayak or canoe, or trek over the dock and skip the extra adrenaline.
